The Absence of Options - Day 39

"Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." John 6:68

Following Jesus has always been hard. After delivering His discourse on the bread of life, "many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him." 59 Turning to the twelve disciples, Jesus said, "Will ye also go away?" 60 The door to discipleship opens both ways. Jesus will hold the door open for you to enter, or to exit.

God did not design the life of discipleship so you can do Him a favor. Rather He did it as a favor to you. The day you no longer see discipleship as God doing you a favor, you should exit. Understanding this, Peter said, "To whom shall we go? Knowing what we know, having lived with You and coming to terms with who You are, what are our options?" There comes a time of testing when God raises the cost of following Christ to the place where you fall back with Peter to the last line of defence ? the absence of options. What is your price? What would it take for the enemy to talk you into exiting the life of discipleship? Whatever your price, it is simply a matter of time before you "walk no more with Him."

Your only chance of finishing the race well rests in your eliminating all options. Until you are convinced in the depths of your soul that an option does not exist, you are a casualty of spiritual warfare waiting to happen. If it is hard to follow Jesus, and it is, it is harder not to follow Him.
